Our reserves are selected using the same standard we use for full time officers. They must meet the minimum requirements for police officers as outlined in the Oregon Revised Statutes. They must pass a written test, physical agility test, and be selected by a board. Those selected will need to pass a psychological exam, drug screening and thorough background investigation. We usually test for reserve officers once a year during the summer.

We enroll new reserve officers into a Reserve Officer Academy and require successful completion of the academy. We provice all uniforms and equipment needed, and an extensive field training program will follow the academy training. The reserve academy is usually from November through April (approx.) and requires a commitment of usually 2 evenings each week and some weekends. All time is volunteered time. We provide the training and equipment, you volunteer the time.

When a candidate has completed the academy field training and has been recommended and accepted for solo reserve status, they would come to work, check out a car and patrol like a full-time officer would. We require a minimum of 2 full shifts per month, although most reserve officers put in much more than that.

In addition, there are several special events throught the year that require additional manpower and reserves are expected to help with those events, ie; 4th of July Event.

Reserve officers are volunteers and are NOT paid.
